Kent Covenant Staff Dr. Keith Carpenter Senior Pastor
How long have you been at Kent Covenant? I have served at KCC as Senior Pastor for 20 years. What gives you the greatest joy about being a pastor? I love to see people get connected in a relationship with God and put His life-changing power to work in their lives. What would you like to say to someone new to Kent Covenant? KCC is a place where you encounter the living God. Everyone is accepted, relationships are valued, change is encouraged, and God shows up a lot. Phone: 253-631-0222, ext. 300
Pastor John Hamblen Associate Pastor, Administration and Christian Formation
Where did you come from before coming to Kent Covenant? I was born in Meridian, Mississippi, raised in Arlington, Virginia and came to Kent from Atlanta, Georgia. How does God use you and your gifts here at Kent Covenant? At KCC, I am using my spiritual gifts of administration and encouragement in ways that I would never have thought about 10 years ago. Administrators always want to bring order to the organization they serve. Since arriving at KCC in August 2004, we have seen great strides in the management of adminstrative processes, facilities maintenance and Christian Formation. What do you like about working at KCC? I receive a lot of joy when people tell their friends, "I go to church at KCC!" Phone: 253-631-0222, ext. 306 Pastor Dan Schuttler Pastor, Worship and Arts
Where were you born and raised? I grew up in Nebraska. How many years have you been at Kent Covenant? I have been at KCC for 17 years. When did you first know that you wanted to be in the ministry? I first realized my call to the ministry during an internship at First Presbyterian Church in Boulder, Colorado. It was there that I realized that God had gifted me with certain abilities and given me a myriad of experiences to prepare me for a life in this field of ministry. Phone: 253-631-0222, ext. 314 Susan Sommerman Director, Ministry Opportunities
When did you begin attending KCC? I began attending KCC 24 years ago as a new believer and have spiritually "grown up" here. My husband, Jerry and daughters, Lydia and Sarah came to faith here as well. What is your role at KCC? My primary responsibilities include helping others find their niche in serving the church and the community. I also oversee the welcome and hospitality ministries, congregational care, and assist with worship planning. I love the way God has stretched me through continually asking me to step out and do something new. Phone: 253-631-0222, ext. 308 Pastor Jeannette Conver Assistant Pastor, Small Group Ministries
How long have you been in ministry? I have been in ministry for 30 years - in campus ministry; as part of a house church planting team; as a missionary; and in lay/staff church ministry. What satisfies you about working at KCC? I find amazing satisfaction in helping people find a place to belong in Christian community! The next joy is to watch them become more like Jesus as they feel loved and cared for by God and others. Work should not be this fun! Phone: 253-631-0222, ext. 307 Pastor Jeff Hunter Assoc. Pastor, Student Ministries
What is your favorite band? Hehe, you might as well ask me what is my favorite food! But among my favorites are Keane and David Crowder. How do you feel about the youth ministry at KCC? I love youth ministry! I've been working here at KCC officially for nigh onto 3 years and getting to hang out with all the fabulous people around here and work on being a connected crew of Jesus lovers who are growing up together is a pretty cool thing. With all the cool people, good music, big thoughts, nifty events, crazy games (video & otherwise), who wouldn't love youth ministry? Phone: 253-631-0222, ext. 313
Ruby Varghese Assistant Director, Student Ministries (Middle School) and Crosspointe
What was your first car? My first car was a remote control Jeep Wrangler. What has drawn you to be involved in working with youth? My greatest passion in life is seeing people's lives( especially teenager's lives) transformed by God. It made a huge impact on me to have people come around me during my high school/middle school years - to hang with me, reflect Christ to me, and challenge me to live life differently. I am excited to be a part of engaging youth and young adults, like myself to an authentic community of believers where they can grow, share, and be challenged in life together. This is what's drawn me into ministry - to be involved in leading others to Christ and into relationship with one another! Phone: 253-631-0222, ext. 312 Shirley Pfiffner Director, Children's Ministries
What led you to children's ministry? I have always had a real heart for children and love working with them. It seems that God has used me to make a special connection with little ones. In 2004, while attending a children's ministries conference, I felt a very direct call to serve in some type of leadership capacity with children. I had no real idea what that meant at the time, but I knew God had created the deep passion in my heart for children. It has been a great privilege to have that area of full time ministry open up for me. Phone: 253-631-0222, ext. 309 Krista Finney Director, Kent Covenant Christian Preschool
How did God lead you to become the Preschool Director of Kent Covenant Christian Preschool? I love kids and I love education, although I am not a teacher. My background is in business administration, by degree and I never would have imagined that one day I'd be directing a preschool. God showed me how my gifts could be used in this type of position and I'm so very thankful for that. I work with a gifted and loveable staff, and so enjoy the children and their families that come to us each year. We truly are a community of and for Christ. What drew you to make KCC your church home? After my son, Brian graduated from high school, I decided to search for a new church home. In my search, I attended Kent Covenant. I loved the sermons and everyone I met was so nice. Then I went to another church in the area to get a comparison. After 3 months, I was itching to come back to KCC. When I walked through the doors that first Sunday back, I felt like I had come home. Phone: 253-631-0222, ext. 301 Trisha HordanAdministrative Assistant, Student Ministries and Church Receptionist
What first drew you to Kent Covenant? I passed KCC and decided to stop for the service. I sat down and instantly felt at home. I appreciated the Biblical teaching, warm welcome and the children's program. Phone: 253-631-0222, ext. 300

What drew you to Kent Covenant? My wife, Wanda and I were drawn to KCC because of the depth of Pastor Keith's preaching, high quality of music, and the friendliness of the members.
